Alfonso Infante Moro, Francisco José Martínez López, Juan Carlos Infante Moro

  • This is the first study of the hotel sector regarding the extent of computerization in its big companies.

This study examines the extent of computerization in big companies of the Spanish hotel sector with the aim of confirming the viability and sustainability of this sector relative to changes in ICT, a stage which is defined by the extensive use of the Internet and online social networks, and the handling of large quantities of information generated within these new environments. This research analyzes the extent of computerization of big hotel companies through an empirical study, with a "checklist" and questionnaire. We have confirmed that the hotel sector is computerized to a greater extent in terms of internal functions in its big companies, but these companies should strengthen their presence on the Internet and online social networks. They should use these networks as channels to shape their image and boost sales, and should reinforce Internet security and the use of CRM with the information extracted from them. All these characteristics are clearly dependent on the extent of computerization in these establishments.
