    Arts research, artistic research, academic research : the conflation between these different concepts, how they are applied and in what environments – now being accelerated by the European Bologna Process – has in no way resolved the climate of mistrust between players on a “research scene” whose contours are still ill-defined. The Bologna debate suggests that a much broader historical and political issue is at stake : the meeting of the sensible and the intelligible in the 21st century and, therefore, the issue of people’s aesthetic education. With this perspective in mind, our study developed from a rare and fertile configuration in which artists and scientists worked together on the concepts of prototype, technique and testing, and through which workshop and laboratory, academia and the world of culture were turned inside out.

    Recherche de l’art, recherche en art, recherche académique : le rapprochement ou la confusion entre ces concepts, ces pratiques et ces mondes, hâté par le processus européen de Bologne, n’a pas aboli la défiance entre les protagonistes d’une scène « recherche » dont le périmètre reste flou. Un tel débat indique un enjeu plus vaste, historique et politique, celui de la rencontre entre le sensible et l’intelligible au xxie siècle, et, partant, celui de l’éducation esthétique de l’homme. Pour ouvrir cette perspective, notre étude part d’une configuration rare et fertile réunissant des artistes et des scientifiques autour des notions de prototype, de technique et d’essai, qui bouleversent tout à la fois l’atelier et le laboratoire, le monde universitaire et celui de la culture.
