  • Resumen
    • An Ob-scertainer (Lab-Aids, Inc.) is an opaque, black petri dish with a design molded into the plastic. A metal ball is placed inside each Ob-scertainer and students make hypotheses about the internal shape of the design by any means other than opening the Ob-scertainer. This simple activity on hypothesis-forming provides a group exercise that can be used on the first day of laboratory in an introductory or general chemistry course. Judging from their comments and participation in the activity, students learn about the scientific method while cooperatively engaging in the process of discovery.
