  • Whether students are beginning their study of probability or are well into it, distinctions between complementary sets and mutually exclusive sets can be confusing. For years, I used typical classroom examples but was not happy with student engagement or understanding. One experience I had with alternative examples helped make this one of my favorite lessons.
