This paper describes a teaching development project based on using exemplars to engage undergraduates with timely formative feedback in the context of large-group teaching in the university lecture-hall. The rationale for developing more varied feedback methods to improve achievement and promote learning is located in the theoretical context of assessment for learning. The design of the workshop is outlined in full and students' views of the value of the reported activities are briefly illuminated.
