    This paper relates to the development of the production of History in Education within the setting of Science of History. It considers the theoretical and methodological presence of the positivists, the followers of the Annales school-movement, Cultural History and the Marxists in historiography.It ponders the different conceptions formulated by the historical process and considers decisive and previous issues of method. It concludes with the need for a resumption of the materialist interpretation of history.

    O presente texto relaciona o desenvolvimento da produção em História da Educação com a configuração da Ciência da História. Considera, na historiografia, a presença teórico-metodológica dos positivistas, dos seguidores da escola-movimento dos Annales, da História Cultural e dos marxistas. Pondera sobre as diferentes concepções formuladas para a história processo e, as considera decisivas e anteriores às questões de método. Conclui pela necessidade de uma retomada da interpretação materialista da história.
