Resumen de Minimization of the mosaic effect in hierarchical multirate vector quantization for image coding

In this paper, we propose an image coding method, which basically consists on the application of vector quantization and appropiate post-processing in order to minimize the mosaic effect. We have to store a monographic image data base. We use a hierarchical multirate vector quantization to code the data base so in a low bit rate basis and tolerable SNR. HMVQ is a suitable algorithm to separate different contrast blocks in each image. This division provides a reconstruction selective filtering to minimize the mosaic effect. Each block will be filtered according to its characteristics. The gap between contiguous blocks is minimized with low contrast sub-images. At the same time, edge blocks will mantain image details.
