  • Resumen
    • Weak subgrade soils have been modified in one form or another for centuries.

This paper focuses on experiences with lime and fly ash as modifiers and stabilizers in Illinois.

Recent Illinois Department of Transportation projects in McLean and Grundy Counties in Illinois are highlighted to discuss the need for proper testing prior to using these stabilizers in the field to ensure satisfactory results. The paper also discusses through case histories the consequences of not performing both the necessary tests and providing adequate monitoring during construction.
