The 2010 General Law on Audio-visual Communication established the guidelines that force Spanish television producers to offer accessible contents for people with sensory disabilities. Audio-visual producers have seen in this obligation a new market sector to re-orientate their work in times of economic crisis. In the last few years audio-visual media, in order to meet their requirements as “public service”, have demanded contents with components accessible to people with some kind of hearing or visual disability. In this way, broadcast programming has included in its value chain subtitling, audio-description and translation of its contents into sign language.
