    This article aims at establishing a theoretical and methodological reflection of History of Teaching Geography, emphasizing the importance of History of School Geography in the clarification of the process of Brazilian territorial formation along the constitution of the Brazilian Imperial State. Another goal is demonstrating the relevance of the Collection of the Nucleus for Documentation and Memory of Colégio Pedro II (NUDOM/ CPII) for this type of historical production made by non-historians.

    O presente artigo consiste em estabelecer uma breve reflexão teórico-metodológica acerca da História do Ensino da Geografia, enfatizando a importância da História da Geografia Escolar na própria elucidação do processo de formação territorial do Brasil durante a construção do Estado Imperial Brasileiro. Consiste também em demonstrar a notável importância do Acervo do Núcleo de Documentação e Memória do Colégio Pedro II (NUDOM/CPII) para esse tipo de produção historiográfica feita por não historiadores.
