este trabajo discute los distintos signifi cados, que se concetran y acumulan en el concepto árabe de mathal /pl.amthal (hebr.:mashal) —proverbio,metáfora, parábola, comparación etc.— que está en el centro del Corán y de la Biblia. Mathal (parábola, proverbio etc.) es la esencia de la “Pedagogía de Dios”. Por su parte, el Libre de mil proverbis de Ramón Llull considera el proverbio como sentencia, como ocurre en los antiguos “libros de sentencias”.
this paper discusses the arabic concept mathal /pl. amthal (hebraic mashal), which lies in the very center of both the Quran, and the Bible. Their different meanings (from the point of view of the western languages) have deep down an unity and amthal is the soul of its pedagogy. In the Libre de mil proverbis de Ramón Llull these concepts are considered as sentences, with no relationship to metaphors
