Discurso e mídia: totalitarismo e linguagem totalitária

    This article intends to reflect about the bases for the emergence of a totalitarian language (or languages), having as context the socio-political crisis that has intensified since 2016 in Brazil.

    To organize our research purpose, we started from Hannah Arendt’s notion of totalitarianism and expanded it to other approaches by authors from the field of language and discourse, who discuss language and power relations. It’s our premise that the media acts as a relevant instance in this process and the propaganda system functions as the primordial instrument of totalitarian language. Thus, if thinking about a totalitarian language is possible, which characteristics define it? What are the bases that sustain this kind of language and in what kind of contexts can it emerge? And, above all, what is the role of media in this context?

    Este artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre as bases da emergência de uma linguagem - ou de linguagens - totalitária(s), tomando o contexto da crise sociopolítica que se intensifica no Brasil a partir de 2016. Para estruturar essa reflexão, partimos da abordagem de Hannah Arendt sobre totalitarismo e de autores do campo da linguagem e do discurso que discutem as relações que se estabelecem entre linguagem e poder, tomando a mídia como instância relevante nesse processo e o sistema de propaganda como instrumento primordial dessa linguagem. Portanto, se se pode pensar no espectro de uma linguagem totalitária, que caraterísticas a definem? Quais as bases que a sustentam e em que contextos pode emergir?  E, sobretudo, qual o papel da mídia nessa configuração?
