Afrosound y la psicodelia tropical: entre el latin soul y el chucu-chucu

    Dentro de la revolución sonora tropical colombiana, ocurrida en los años sesenta y setenta, Afrosound fue uno de los proyectos más audaces e interesantes. Su fundación, en el amanecer de los setenta, lo ubica casi al final del proceso experimental sonoro que se formalizaría bajo el apelativo de chucu-chucu, en un momento en el que la mayoría de las agrupaciones habían estandarizado sus propuestas creativas. Afrosound apareció como un aire fresco en el circuito musical del país, experimentando con sonidos provenientes del soul, el latin jazz, el rock y el funk, sin perder los pulsos rítmicos de la cumbia urbana de la que habían bebido los músicos durante la década anterior. Afrosound, más que un grupo musical, fue un taller de experimentación sonora que bien podríamos considerar pionero de un tipo de rock tropical colombiano.

    Within the Colombian tropical sound revolution, which occurred in the 60s and 70s, Afrosound was one of the most daring and interesting projects. Its foundation, at the dawn of the 70s, places it almost at the end of the experimental sonorous process that would be formalized under the name of Chucu-Chucu, at a time when most of the groups had standardized their creative proposals. Afrosound appeared like a fresh breeze in the musical circuit of the country, experimenting with sounds from soul, Latin jazz, rock and funk, without losing the rhythmic pulses of urban cumbia from which musicians had drawn influence during the previous decade. Afrosound, more than a musical group, was a laboratory of sonorous experimentation that we could well consider the pioneer of a type of tropical Colombian rock.
