The aim of this article is to complete the history of celiac disease by examining two unexplored medical treatises. The seventeenth-century tracts analyzed reflect the conception and general knowledge about the disease at the time. In this study, the most relevant works that have dealt with the etiology and treatment of the disease throughout the history of medicine are reviewed and fresh new data on the disease from classical antiquity to the present time are provided.
