La singularidad del tema del aborto en el teatro español: Breakfast at Daddy’s, de Beatriz Cabur

    Este trabajo versará sobre la obra de teatro Breakfast at Daddy’s, de Beatriz Cabur, una propuesta sobre al aborto, así como la inserción de la pieza en el actual teatro escrito por dramaturgas españolas. Beatriz Cabur es probablemente uno de los fenómenos más interesantes en el teatro internacional. Su condición de española radicada en Londres le aporta la distancia necesaria para abordar temáticas comprometidas de aspecto universal.

    Aunque la mayor parte de su obra está escrita en inglés y estrenada fuera de España, considero a Cabur dentro de la dramaturgia española escrita por mujeres, en concreto, dentro de la temática feminista. Por otro lado, hay que hacer notar que el tema del aborto no es preponderante en el teatro español, aunque sí puede relacionarse con la desmitificación de la maternidad. Mi propuesta es investigar en el tratamiento teatral de este controvertido tema, cómo su elaboración dramática y escénica sirve a los propósitos de la autora.

    El tema del aborto en Breakfast at Daddy’s está dramatizado para poner sobre la mesa los prejuicios y falsos mitos que rodean todas las prevenciones respecto a este tema que, en pleno siglo XXI sigue siendo tabú, a pesar de suponer una cuestión central para la vida y la libertad de las mujeres.

    En conclusión, Breakfast at Daddy’s es una pieza teatral singular dentro del teatro español si consideramos a su autora, Beatriz Cabur como una autora española que ha desarrollado su carrera internacionalmente. Se trata de un tema con escasa aparición en el teatro español escrito por mujeres y, dentro de este contexto, está tratado de forma diferente, desde el punto de vista de las mujeres y su libertad para decidir, desvelando así la hipócrita e ilusoria permisividad de la sociedad.

    This work will be about the play Breakfast at Daddy's, by Beatriz Cabur, a proposal about abortion, as well as the insertion of the piece in the current theater written by Spanish women playwrights. Beatriz Cabur is probably one of the most interesting phenomena in international theater. She is a Spanish Playwright who lives in London, which gives her the necessary distance to commit to universal issues.

    Although most of her work is written in English and released outside of Spain, I consider Cabur in the Spanish dramaturgy written by women, specifically, within the feminist theme. On the other hand, it should be noted that the issue of abortion is not predominant in Spanish theater, although it can be related to the demystification of motherhood. My proposal is to investigate in the theatrical treatment of this controversial topic, how its dramatic and scenic elaboration serves the author's purposes.

    The abortion theme in Breakfast at Daddy's is dramatized to bring to the table the prejudices and false myths that surround all the preventions regarding this issue that, in the 21st century, remains taboo, despite being a central issue for the life and the freedom of women.

    In conclusion, Beatriz Cabur is a Spanish playwright who has developed her career internationally. In this context, Breakfast at Daddy's deals with abortion from the point of view of women and their freedom to decide, thus uncovering the hypocritical and illusory permissiveness of society
