El Fons Miguel Casals Aragonés de la Biblioteca de Catalunya:: el fil de vida d'un compositor desconegut

    L’inventari del fons musical del compositor Miguel Casals Aragonés (MMCas), de qui no es coneixen fins ara dades rellevants, s’ha posat a disposició del públic al web de la Biblioteca de Catalunya. Aquest treball ha estat possible després de l’ordenació, la classifi cació i la descripció dels manuscrits musicals. Les poques dades que es coneixen d’aquest pianista i compositor van avivar tota una sèrie d’incògnites a l’entorn de la seva figura.

    L’objectiu proposat en aquest article és resoldre, de manera incipient, aquelles man cances que deixen Miguel Casals sense un espai propi en la memòria col·lectiva. A priori, totes les dades obtingudes directament del mateix fons havien de ser el fonament de la re cerca per a aquest article. Tot seguit, amb l’estudi d’aquesta informació, s’anirien treballant les hipòtesis fins a aconseguir trobar fonts que acabessin resolent i corroborant els interro gants plantejats i els buits documentals, amb l’objectiu d’evidenciar fefaentment el resultat de la investigació. D’aquesta manera es presenta l’article que teniu a les mans, com un re cull de dades rescatades de l’inventari del fons que pretenen configurar una línia de vida del compositor, i que es completen amb el buidatge d’altres fonts documentals i d’arxius, sor gides de la pròpia recerca inicial de l’estudi del fons.

    Miguel Casals Aragonés, nascut a Barcelona l’any 1857, pot tenir dins la historiogra fia musical un espai propi, basat en la seva obra, un corpus musical amb més de trescentes obres que no pot restar ignorat, almenys ara que el fil d’una vida desconeguda s’ha trans format en una realitat.

    The inventory of the musical holdings of the composer Miguel Casals Aragonés (MMCas), of whom no significant facts have been known up to now, has been made available to the public on the website of the National Library of Catalonia. This study has been possible organising, classifying and describing the musical manuscripts. The few facts that are known to us about this pianist and composer brought up a series of questions in connection with him.

    The purpose of this paper is to make a preliminary effort to fill in the blanks that cause Miguel Casals to hold no place in the collective memory. A priori, all the data ob tained directly from the holdings were to form the basis of our research. Then, by studying this information, we would delve further into the various hypotheses in search of sources which would finally corroborate and provide an answer to the respective questions and the documentary lacunae so that the results of our research could be solidly supported. This paper is consequently presented as a collection of data recovered from the inventory of the holdings to form a timeline of the composer’s life, supplemented with the informa tion obtained from other documentary sources and archives discovered as a result of our study of the holdings.

    Miguel Casals Aragonés, born in Barcelona in 1857, can now take his place in our mu sical historiography on the basis of his work, a body of music comprising over 300 pieces which should no longer remain in oblivion now that the timeline of his hitherto unknown life has become a reality.
