    The article sheds light on the alternative practice of management consulting. Based on a series of interviews conducted with 20 consultants, the results show that the alternative character of consulting lies in its mobilization of secular knowledge beyond the scope of traditional managerial rationality, and is rooted in the material and emotional dimensions of work as experienced by employees, including marginalized groups. The action of the consultants consists of organizing the visibility and circulation of this secular knowledge in order to influence the subjective positions of the actors, starting with the managers, and set the organization in motion.

    L’article apporte un éclairage sur la pratique alternative du conseil en management. Basés sur une série d’entretiens menés auprès de vingt consultants, les résultats montrent que le caractère alternatif du conseil réside dans la mobilisation d’un savoir profane, non saisi par la rationalité managériale traditionnelle, et ancré dans les dimensions matérielles et émotionnelles du travail tel qu’il est vécu par les salariés y compris les groupes marginalisés. L’action des consultants consiste à organiser la mise en visibilité et la circulation de ce savoir afin de faire bouger les positions subjectives des acteurs, à commencer par les managers, et mettre l’organisation en mouvement.
