  • Resumen
    • While numerous studies have assessed college student math anxiety and accounting classes in college, none have focused primarily on the hospitality student. This research assessed math and accounting ability and anxiety and confidence levels of hospitality undergraduates. While students were relatively confident in their quantitative abilities and understood the value of quantitative skills, they did not especially like math-related activities. Quantitative situations requiring timed performance increased stress level. Students with higher anxiety levels delayed taking quantitative courses. Upper level students overall were less anxious and performed better than the younger students. Teaching approaches and advising practices should consider a student's tendency to be math-anxious to assist a student to be more successful in completion of an undergraduate degree.
