Pretende-se mostrar como as três teorias analisadas se integram no contexto de pensamento linguístico coevo, assim como a sua ligação com os discursos fundacionais da nação.

Les principals teories sobre l'origen de la llengua portuguesa es presenten en destacats textos metalingüístics portuguesos escrits entre els segles XVI i XIX. L'objectiu és mostrar com les tres teories analitzades s'integren en el context del pensament lingüístic cohesiu, així com la seua connexió amb els discursos fundacionals de la nació.

The main theories on the origin of the Portuguese language are presented in outstanding Portuguese metalinguistic texts written between the 16th and 19th centuries. The aim is to show how the three theories analyzed are integrated in a context of contemporary linguistic thought and its link with the nation’s foundational discourses.
