  • Resumen
    • The polytechnic sector is unique in its provision of educational development services. Most polytechnics have one central educational development service, each varying somewhat in its size, structure and purpose, but all concerned with encouraging the improvement of teaching and learning methods. Until recently Birmingham Polytechnic was not unusual in that it was served by a small central Educational Development Unit. In 1983 a major planning exercise was undertaken which sought to address the rapidly changing educational requirements of the polytechnic in the latter half of this century. The outcome of this planning activity is discussed with particular reference to the evolution of a faculty‐based devolved model of educational development.
