In the Federal Republic of Germany it has been decided that computers are to be introduced into the education system. The decisions were strongly influenced by economical and political motives. Primary education has, so far, been excluded. In this paper it is argued that for primary schools the pedagogical point of view has to be of prime concern. This implies that decisions have to be prepared and justified from the basis of one's own educational culture with pedagogical principles and the ideals of the teaching‐learning process as references. Examples are outlined for the different decision contexts of the education system.
