Resumen de Learning to Learn. Suggestions for the Development of a Curriculum at the High School Level

Robert Brien, Paul Goulet, Guy Provost

  • Several contemporary educators consider acquiring learning strategies as one of the fundamental objectives of our educational systems. Unfortunately, even though commendable efforts have been made in this direction for some years, this field is still in its infancy. The authors of this text believe that such a situation is probably due to the weak theoretical context inside of which these efforts were made. In this respect, we believe that results of research in learning psychology in the past two or three decades offer an excellent scientific framework for developing programmes with a view to teaching students to learn. We believe that syntheses done by Robert M. Gagné in particular could help greatly in the elaboration of such a project. In the following text a plan for the elaboration of a programme aimed at teaching learning strategies to high school students is suggested. The content of this programme is learning strategies deduced from external and internal conditions suggested by Gagné in his theory. Suggestions on means to teach these learning strategies are included. Finally, indications on the possible means of evaluating such a programme are formulated.
