Resumen
This article analyzes a type of face-work that participates directly in the construction of the identity of individuals and bilingual groups, but that has not been identified as such so far, although the phenomenon through which it is achieved - the alternation of languages in the communicative interaction among bilingual members of the community - has been discussed in numerous studies. The bilingual community on which I focus is that of Hispanics living in the United States, who use in their everyday communication both Spanish and English.
