    • This paper discusses some special questions of current studies in contrastive linguistics and gives bibliographical details of the state of the art in the comparison of Spanish and German. Particular attention is given to the lexicon and our conception of the specific dimensions of the communicative potential of lexical items. Based on the importance of language as the salient part of comunication and the complex and multidimentional links existing between posé, supposé and vouloir dire introduced by Ducrot, our paper contrasts the semantics of German and Spanish verbs of alimentation and motion with regard to their argument structure and morphosyntactic realization. The correlation between cognition and semantics and between cognition, culture and language is also discussed with regard to the problem of choosing an adequate tertium comparationis in the case of our languages with a different sociocultural background.
