La Inspección educativa tiene su nacimiento oficial a mediados del siglo XIX, mediante el Real Decreto de 30 de marzo de 1849, que creó la Inspección de enseñanza primaria profesional. No obstante, existen numerosos antecedentes muy anteriores a esa fecha que configuraron la visita de establecimientos educativos y que, sin duda, ayudaron a tejer la naturaleza del colectivo de inspectores. En este artículo presentamos hitos destacables de la evolución histórica de la inspección educativa durante el Antiguo Régimen, desde los primitivos veedores de la Edad Media hasta el inicio del siglo XIX, previos a la creación de la inspección profesional, con la influencia de diversas instituciones oficiales como la Hermandad de San Casiano;
asimismo, hacemos referencia al influjo del intelectual francés Antoine François de Fourcroy, que propició la modernización y europeización de un modelo de inspección educativa en los años previos a la revolución liberal española.

The educational Inspectorate has its official birth in the middle of the century XIX, through the Royal Decree of March 30, 1849, which created the Inspection of professional primary education. However, there are numerous antecedents long before that date that shaped the visit of educational establishments and that undoubtedly helped to weave nature of the group of inspectors. In this article we present notable milestones of the historical evolution of educational inspection during the Old Regime, from the primitive overseers of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century, prior to the creation of professional inspection, with the influence from various official institutions such as the Brotherhood of San Casiano;
We also refer to the influence of the French intellectual Antoine François de Fourcroy, who promoted the modernization and Europeanization of a model of educational inspection in the years before the liberal revolution Spanish.
