    Objetivo principal: Conocer la percepción de las enfermeras de un hospital general sobre el paciente mental. Metodología: Estudio cualitativo, descriptivo. Se realizaron entrevistas a tres enfermeras de diferentes edades y turnos. Resultados principales. Categorías: conocimiento sobre la enfermedad mental, percepción del enfermo mental como carga extra, autopercepción de conocimientos y habilidades para brindar cuidados al paciente con enfermedad mental y cómo mejorar la situación actual. Conclusión principal: Las enfermeras entrevistadas muestran una actitud positiva frente a la enfermedad mental pero también una necesidad de asesoramiento e información del abordaje a un enfermo mental.

    Objective: to determine the perception of nurses in a general hospital on mental patient. Methodology: qualitative study, in which we analyzed interviews with three nurses of different ages and shifts. Main results. The main findings were classified into four categories: knowledge about mental illness, the mentally ill perceived as an extra burden, self-rated knowledge and skills to care for the patient with mental illness, and how to improve the current situation. Main conclusion : the interviewed nurses showed a positive attitude to mental illness but also a need of information on approaching to mental illness.
