    El presente artículo estudia la creación de una iconografía de la beata quiteña Mariana de Jesús Paredes y Flores (1618-1645) durante los siglos XVII y XVIII. Empleando sus hagiografías y las obras pictóricas que las ilustraron durante el periodo, se busca detectar las sinergias existentes entre los soportes textuales y visuales que permitieron la construcción de una iconografía de Mariana con tintes tanto edificantes como patrióticos. Destinada a la canonización de la beata, dicha iconografía circularía y se difundiría en ambos lados del Atlántico

    This article studies the creation of an iconography of the beata Mariana de Jesús Paredes y Flores (1618-1645), from Quito, during the 17th and 18th centuries. Using her hagiographies and the pictorial works that illustrated them during the selected period, it seeks to detect the synergies between the textual and the visual elements that allowed the construction of an iconography of Mariana infused with both edifying and patriotic overtones. Intended for Mariana’s canonization, this iconography would circulate and spread in both sides of the Atlantic
