    Esta investigación se propuso constatar el origen y la existencia de los topónimos en el resguardo indígena Kankuamo por medio de un análisis morfológico y lexicográfico. Se determinó el origen y la filiación lingüística de la comunidad kankuamo, así como el proceso de reconfiguración de su identidad con base en los atributos topográficos y culturales atribuidos por sus miembros. Entre los hallazgos, se destaca el carácter simbólico que cada espacio del territorio Kankuamo asume como parte de la identidad individual y colectiva de esta comunidad.

    This research aimed to verify the origin and existence of toponyms in the Kankuamo indigenous reservation, through a morphological and lexicographic analysis. The origin and linguistic affiliation of the Kankuamo community was determined, as well as the process of reconfiguration of their identity, based on the topographic and cultural attributes assigned by its members. Among the findings, the symbolic character that each space in the Kankuamo territory assumes as part of the individual and collective identity of this community stands out.
