    Los análisis cuantitativos de inventarios de bibliotecas y librerías de una época determinada pueden ser tomados como indicios reveladores de corrientes de pensamiento. La presencia mayoritaria de unos autores griegos (Aristóteles, Josefo, Plutarco, Tolomeo, Esopo, etc., por este orden) en bibliotecas y de autores modernos (Erasmo, Valla, Nebrija, Budé, Vives, Poliziano, Petrarca) en bibliotecas y librerías del Renacimiento, se toman aquí como signos que manifiestan preferencias cualitativas de lecturas y lectores humanísticos.

    The quantitative analysis of library and bookstore inventories of a given era can be taken as indicators of trends of thought. The major presence of some Greek authors (Aristotle, Josephus, Plutarch, Ptolemy, Aesop, etc., in that order) in libraries, and of modern authors (Erasmus, Valla, Nebrija, Budé, Vives, Politian, Petrarch) in libraries and bookstores of the Renaissance, are taken here as indications of the qualitative preferences of humanistic readings and readers.
