    Allegando conceptos de la actual teoría de la recepción, los referidos en particular al «lector implícito», puede arrojarse nueva luz en el estudio de los tópicos que vertebran los ensayos prefaciales de los humanistas. En este sentido, el tópico de la vitalidad entusiasta asignada al puer frente ala irreductible vejez representada por el senex sirve a una pragmática del lector, denotando menos un estadio vital concreto y empírico de sus destinatarios habituales, pero connotando más bien un estado ideal del ansia e ímpetu por aprender e innovar que se esperaría de la juventud para derrocar las obstinadas rutinas de los viejos. El análisis del tópos, que lo acuña Lorenzo Valla, lo realizamos sobre prólogos y repetitiones de Antonio de Nebrija y los Flores rhetorici de su discípulo salmantino Fernando Manzanares.

    Gathering concepts from the latest Reader-response Criticism, attended specially to «implied reader», is so as to throw new light on topics of humanistic pre-faces. In this way the zealous vitality for learning given to puer as opposed to the uncompromising old age depicted by senex is to a shape of reader. So the youth less denotes a empiric phase of addressees' life, but connoting more accurately an impetuous status of the youthful knowledge is expected to topple the unyielding habits from old crock. This paper offers an interpretation of tópos, coined by Lorenzo Valla, on material from Antonio de Nebrija's dedicatory prologues and repetitiones (inaugural lectures), but also on Flores rhetorici of his disciple at Salamanca Fernando Manzanares.
