    The act of revisiting, recreating and reinterpreting the past of Paraiba Education History becomes relevant in helping to the local historiographical production. Understanding the dimensions that contribute to define the instruction in the Province of Paraíba do Norte in the 19th century, it is necessary a more intense study about the dynamics of relationships that develop through elementary studies of letters. The objective is to apprehend the power relationships among the several subjects of the education and to apprehend the disciplinary and punitive methods, trying to bring to the surface the practices almost always silenced. The cutting is going from 1822 with the implantation of the monarchy to 1864 when it assists a great reform in the public and private instruction in Paraíba. The documental corpus used belongs to the Public Archive of the State of Paraíba - FUNESC and of the Collection of Laws and Regulations of INEP. They are laws, regulations, petitions, letters and solicitations. The documentation allows to visualize, even though partly, the normative and disciplinary practices used by the Imperial Government and the Provincial Government, and it follows that the instruction was the guiding element of the civilization. Order, norm and discipline were the ideals to be pursued in favor of the formation and the consolidation of the National State.

    O ato de revisitar, recriar e reinterpretar o passado da História da Educação paraibana se torna  relevante na medida em que contribui com a produção historiográfica local. Paracompreender as dimensões que concorrem para definir a instrução na Província da Paraíba do Norte no século XIX, se faz necessárioum estudo mais aguçado acerca da dinâmica das relações que se desenvolvem na instrução. O objetivo é apreender as relações de poder entre os vários sujeitos da educação é apreender os métodos disciplinares e punitivos, procurando trazer à tona as “práticas” quase sempre silenciadas. O recorte vai de 1822 com a implantação da monarquia até 1864 quando acorre uma grande reforma na instrução pública e particular na Paraíba. O corpus documental utilizado é retirado do Arquivo Público do Estado da Paraíba - FUNESC e da Coleção de Leis e Regulamentos do INEP; são leis, regulamentos, petições, cartas e requerimentos. A documentação permite visualizar mesmo que parcialmente as práticas normativas e disciplinares empregadas pelo Governo Imperial e o Governo Provincial. Isso nos leva a concluir que a instrução era o elemento norteador da civilização. Ordem, norma e disciplina eram os ideais a serem perseguidos em prol da formação e a consolidação do Estado – Nacional.
