  • Resumen
    • Purpose: Sustainability is becoming more and more important as it is seen as anessential part of our lives. The three dimensions of sustainability (social, environmental and economic) play an important role in the development ofcompanies, which is why more and more reports produced by companies emphasisethe relationship between their activities and sustainability. Among the differentcompanies we can see that the importance of public companies as participants insustainable development is high. Among public enterprises are state universities thathave an important impact on society as future generations are educated there. But whatlevel of sustainability do the state universities in Spain reach? Are their actions relatedto sustainability? Or is there a relation between different types of sustainability basedon the actions carried out by the universities? Taking all of this into account, the mainobjective of this study is to analyse the relationship between the three dimensions ofsustainability and whether the intensity of use of the social networks is related to theeconomic sustainability of the universities in Spain.Methodology: In order to carry out the study, data was collected by means of a selfadministeredquestionnaire. The first part of the methodology was a descriptiveanalysis of the sample and the answers received. Then the methodology of data analysisbased on PLS-SEM (Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling) was used.Variance-based SEM is a methodological option to carry out analyses that measure thesimultaneous behaviour of dependence relationships. This technique also allows todecide whether or not to impose the direction of the hypotheses.Findings: The results obtained have shown that the intensity of the use of socialnetworks and the economic sustainability of state universities is weak, althoughpositive. Furthermore, there is a strong and positive relationship between the threedimensions of sustainability at the university level.Originality: This study contributes to the scarce academic literature on sustainabilityactions carried out in state universities. Furthermore, it promotes and highlights theimportance of sustainable development, one of the main goals of the United Nations
