La función pragmática del enunciado como factor determinante del orden sujeto-verbo en interrogativas totales en variantes del español: Utterance’s pragmatic function as a determining factor in the subject-verb order of total interrogatives of spanish variants

    Se propone un análisis de la relación entre el factor valor pragmático del enunciado interrogativo y el orden sujeto-verbo y su variación dialectal según las zonas geográficas reconocidas en el mundo hispánico. Teóricamente, esta investigación se fundamenta, por un lado, en estudios que plantean una correlación entre la función comunicativa de la interrogación y su estructura sintáctica y, por otro, en la conocida tendencia al orden SV que experimentan las interrogativas parciales del Caribe. El corpus de análisis está conformado por 700 oraciones interrogativas totales, extraídas del Corpus de Referencia del Español del Siglo XXI (CORPES). El análisis estadístico revela solo una correspondencia parcial con los postulados de Freed (1994) y Escandell (1999) respecto de la asociación del orden con el valor pragmático del enunciado. Además, se observó un comportamiento diferenciado según las zonas geográficas, siendo España la zona que tiende a la posposición del sujeto de manera más acusada, independientemente del valor pragmático, mientras que las zonas Caribe Continental, Chile y Río de la Plata muestran una tendencia a la anteposición. El análisis de regresión logística mostró que, de las categorías observadas en el estudio, son las interrogativas subjectio y problemáticas las que favorecen de manera fuerte el orden VS, mientras que la pregunta real, sorprendentemente, favorece la anteposición del sujeto.

    We conduct an analysis of the relationship between the pragmatic value of the interrogative utterance, the subject-verb order and its dialectal variation according to geographical areas recognized in the Hispanic zone. Theoretically, this research is based, on the one hand, on studies that suggest a correlation between the communicative function of the interrogation and its syntactic structure and, on the other, on the well-known SV pattern found in Caribbean partial interrogatives. The corpus is made up of 700 total interrogative utterances, extracted from the Corpus de Referencia del Español del Siglo XXI (CORPES). The statistical analysis revealed only a partial correspondence with the results obtained by Freed (1994) and Escandell (1999) regarding the association between the order and the pragmatic value of the utterance. In addition, differentiated patterns were observed according to the geographical areas: while Spain is the area in which the subject tended to be postponed more markedly, regardless of the pragmatic value of the utterance; the Continental Caribbean, Chile and Río de la Plata areas revealed a tendency towards anteposition. The logistic regression analysis indicated that, among the categories observed in the study, the subjectio and problematic interrogatives strongly favor the VS order, while, surprisingly, real questions favor the anteposition of the subject.
