    Maximón est un personnage religieux au statut ambigu -entre dieu et saint- issu du système des confréries de Santiago Atitlán, municipalité de l’ouest du Guatemala dont la population est essentiellement composée de paysans d’origine Maya Tzutujil. Au cours de la semaine sainte -époque de renouveau qui correspond à la fois à la période pendant laquelle les catholiques fêtent la résurrection du Christ, à la fin de la saison sèche dans la région et au Uayeb des anciens Mayas- il est au centre d’un ensemble de rites de fertilité agricole. Dans cet article, l’auteur analyse la relation instaurée entre les hommes et leur divinité à cette occasion, centrant son attention sur une offrande de fruits tropicaux et à sa préparation, soulignant sa dimension à la fois alimentaire et sexuelle.

    Maximon is a religious figure with an ambiguous status –between God and saint- emanating from the brotherhood system of Santiago Atitlan, municipality of the west Guatemala in which the population is essentially composed of Maya Tzutuhil peasants. During Holy Week Maximon is the central element of agricultural fertility rituals. This time of renewal corresponds with the period during which the Catholics celebrate the Christ’s resurrection and the end of the dry season in this area and the “Uayeb” of the Ancient Mayas. In this article, the author analyses the relationship between the people and their deity during this time, while focusing her attention on the tropical fruit offering and its preparation, and underlining its sexual and food dimension.
