Abstract The insertion of the university within the local geography is offered as a gateway to young people and adults who previously had not been able to access the educational system or who simply were not part of their social imaginary. The Nursing career is selected given its social relevance, marked by its scarcity in health services and because it is the profession that provides professional care in all stages of life. Regular students of the career were surveyed and their responses were grouped into four dimensions. The estimates made by the actors who "thought" the location of the University were correct.
