    Alejandro Otegui Vicandi nació en 1906 en Logroño. Fue aprendiz del fotógrafo Alberto Muro. Posteriormente trabajó como fotógrafo en el Salto de Villalba de la Sierra (Cuenca). Al finalizar ese trabajo, Manuel Lorenzo Pardo, que había sido el director de aquella obra, lo incorporó a la recién creada Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro. Sus primeras fotografías ilustran los estudios geológicos de Clemente Sáenz García. Gracias a los diarios de este ingeniero de caminos y geólogo, se han podido identificar con precisión las fotografías realizadas por Otegui. Su plaza de auxiliar fotógrafo fue suprimida en 1933 y ya no volvería a trabajar como fotógrafo. A la vez que trabajaba obtuvo el título de Medicina. El resto de su vida profesional la dedicó a la investigación como microbiólogo del instituto IBYS.

    Alejandro Otegui Vicandi was born in Logroño in 1906. He did his aprenticeship with photographer Alberto Muro. Later he worked as a photographer at the Hydroelectric water jump in Villalbade la Sierra (Cuenca). When this work was finished, Manuel Lorenzo Pardo, manager of the work,asked him to join the recently created Ebro River Basin Authority. His first photographs deal with thegeological studies of Clemente Saénz García. Thanks to the diaries of this civil engineer and geologist, an accurate identification of the content of the photographs taken by Otegui has been possible.His post of assistant photographer was eliminated in 1933 and he did not work as a photographeranymore. While working he obtained his degree in medicine. He consecrated the rest of his professional life to microbiological research at IBYS institute.
