Aprender investigación social… investigando (en Terapia Ocupacional)

    Es esencial que los futuros terapeutas ocupacionales tengan unos conocimientos básicos (y un entrenamiento para aplicarlos) que les permita conocer las características y necesidades de la población con la que van a intervenir, y analizar el impacto de las intervenciones que llevan a cabo. Y, sin embargo, en el grado de Terapia Ocupacional no existe ninguna asignatura que forme al alumnado en métodos y técnicas de investigación social. Nos hemos propuesto en las prácticas de Sociología aplicada a la Discapacidad (2º curso) facilitar las herramientas teóricas sobre un proceso de investigación y, en paralelo, que el alumnado en grupos de 4-5 alumnos/as implementen sobre el terreno una investigación aplicada a colectivos determinados de personas con discapacidad. El objetivo de esta estrategia deaprendizaje-acción es dotarles de herramientas para llevar a cabo procesos de investigación social así como tener una relación directa con el ámbito de la discapacidad que les ayude a desmontar prejuicios y estereotipos. Los resultados han respondido a nuestros objetivos. Además de la adquisición de conocimientos básicos sobre investigación social el alumnado ha puesto en práctica esos aprendizajes y se han llevado a cabo 16 investigaciones sobre el terreno relacionadas con diversos sectores de personas con discapacidad. La valoración global de la experiencia por parte del alumnado ha sido muy positiva (4,36 sobre 5). Nueve de cada diez valora como muy o totalmente gratificante haber trabajado directamente con personas con discapacidad y en similar proporción manifiestan que han ampliado mucho o totalmente sus conocimientos sobre estos colectivos. La satisfacción está especialmente relacionada con los aprendizajes adquiridos (4,20) y con haber podido desarrollar por sí mismos una investigación sobre el terreno (4,48). Entre los aspectos susceptibles de mejora en futuras ediciones, opinión compartida por profesorado y alumnado, figuran algunos aspectos relacionados con la infraestructura y logística del proyecto.

    It is essential that future occupational therapists have a basic knowledge (and training for application) that it allows them to know the characteristics and needs of the population they will work, and analyze the impact of interventionscarried out. And yet, in the degree of Occupational Therapy there is no subject that forms the students in methods and techniques of social research. We have proposed in Practices of Sociology applied to Disability (2nd year) provide the theoretical tools of a research process. At the same time the students, in groups of 4-5 students, implement on the ground an applied research about different groups of persons with disabilities. The objective of this action learning strategy is to provide them tools to carry out social research processes as well as having a direct relationship with disability people to help them dismantle prejudices and stereotypes. The results have met our goals. Students have acquired basic knowledge of social research. In addition, they have implemented these skills and have conducted 16 field researchs related to various sectors of people with disabilities. The overall assessment of the experience has been very positive valued (4.36 out of 5) by students. Nine out of ten evaluated as very or totally rewarding to have worked directly with people with disabilities and a similar proportion say they have expanded much or completely of their knowledge about these groups. Satisfaction is particularly related to the learning acquired (4.20) and to be able to develop their own research in the field (4.48). Among the areas for improvement in future editions, point of view shared by teachers and students, include some aspects of infrastructure and logistic of the project.
