Significado del límite expresado por estudiantes universitarios

    El concepto de límite es un elemento central dentro del análisis matemático y tiene especial interés en educación por su complejidad y las dificultades para su enseñanza y aprendizaje. En este trabajo se analizan y sintetizan los significados que atribuyen estudiantes al concepto de límite de una función real de variable real y se proporciona un sistema de categorías completo funcional y fiable para su análisis, que proporciona una organización de estudiantes en 4 perfiles de significado. Se trata de un estudio de naturaleza descriptiva en el que se analizan las respuestas a un cuestionario semántico de 38 estudiantes de primer curso universitario que están comenzando su formación sobre este tema. El examen de los datos se realizó mediante un análisis de contenido y la síntesis de los significados mediante un análisis clúster. Los elementos que caracterizan los significados son clásicos, como objeto, proceso, alcanzabilidad o rebasabilidad, junto a los que hay que tener en cuenta otros que se centran en propiedades, usos y representaciones, y permiten sintetizar las respuestas en cuatro perfiles. La mayoría de los estudiantes manifiestan pocas características matemáticas de la noción de límite, pero las enriquecen proponiendo ejemplos de aplicación o modos de uso del límite que relacionan con interpretaciones intuitivas

    The concept of limit is a central element in Calculus and has special interest in education due to its complexity and the difficulties in its teaching and learning. In this work, the meanings that students attribute to the concept of limit of a real function of real variable are analyzed and synthesized. A complete usable system of categories is provided, which allows to organize the students in 4 profiles of meaning. This is a descriptive study in which the answers to a semantic questionnaire of 38 first-year university students who are beginning their training on this subject are analyzed. The analysis of the data was carried out through a content analysis and the synthesis of the meanings through a cluster analysis. The elements that characterize the meanings such as object, process, reachability or exceedance, are blended with those that must be taken into account, others that focus on properties, uses and representations and allow the responses to be synthesized in four profiles. Most students show few mathematical characteristics of the notion of limit but they enrich them by proposing application examples or modes of use of the limit that relate to intuitive interpretations.
