En este artículo me propongo analizar la presencia de la lengua tupí y su funcionamiento en el relato del viajero alemán Hans Staden, quien estuvo en Brasil entre 1548 y 1554 y cuyo viaje no era de naturaleza evangelizadora. Esto con el fin de intentar comprender cómo las nociones tupís eran asimiladas y, en consecuencia, entender el impacto de estas percepciones en la construcción de una representación de la brasilidad en el espacio europeo

My aim in this article is to analyse the presence of the Tupi language and the way it functioned, as it is presented in the account given by the German traveller Hans Staden, who was in Brazil between 1548 and 1554, and whose trip didn’t have an evangelizing purpose. We intend to understand how the tupi notions were assimilated, and as a consequence, what has been the impact of these perceptions for the construction of a representation of what is Brazilian in a European space
