Entre la dislocación y el tema vinculante: posibles criterios de distinción entre dos procedimientos de tematización

    En el presente estudio aspiramos a indagar en los dos procedimientos principales de tematización o topicalización, la dislocación y el tema vinculante, buscando discernir dónde podría delinearse la frontera entre ambos mecanismos. Si bien los dos cuentan con caracterizaciones estructurales y pragmáticas ya relativamente establecidas, son varios los casos de potencial solapamiento que dificultan su diferenciación. Por eso, atendemos aquellos aspectos sintácticos, informativos y discursivos que en casos de ambigüedad podrían emplearse como criterios de distinción.

    Para ello, definimos primero las características fundamentales de ambos procedimientos, prestando especial atención a las que tienen o al menos parecen tener en común, y procedemos después a examinar los niveles sintáctico, informativo y discursivo para averiguar si existe algún principio que, en casos de (aparente) correspondencia, permitiera determinar si se está ante la dislocación o ante el tema vinculante. En la búsqueda de la frontera nos apoyamos en el discurso periodístico como la materialización más pura de la función transaccional. Partiendo de un corpus de elaboración propia, observamos que destaca de entre los planos considerados el sintáctico, ya que sendos tópicos se diferencian en la posición sintáctica y el grado de vinculación con el núcleo oracional. A nivel informativo se vislumbran ciertas diferencias en la amplitud del marco, mientras que a nivel discursivo observamos determinadas tendencias relativas al grado de integración en el discurso y al alcance textual.

    In the present study we aim to examine the two main thematization or topicalization mechanisms, dislocation and hanging topic, looking to discern where the limit between both structures could be drawn. Although both have already been structurally and pragmatically characterized, there are various cases of potential overlap that hinder the distinction between them. Therefore, we study those syntactic, informational and discoursive aspects which could be used as distinctive criteria in cases of ambiguity.

    First, we define the fundamental features of both mechanisms paying special attention to those which they have or at least seem to have in common. We then proceed to examine their syntactic, informational and discursive traits to discover if there are some principles which in cases of (apparent) overlap would help to determine whether a certain structure is an example of dislocation or of hanging topic. In search of such boundary, we analyse the journalistic discourse as the purest materialization of the transactional function. By examining our corpus, we observe that the most reliable criteria concern the syntactic traits, as the resulting topics differ in their position and their relationship with the nucleus of the sentence. On informational level they seem to show differences in the broadness of the frame, while on discoursive level we observe certain tendencies regarding their degree of integration in the discourse and their textual scope.
