  • A rapid and sensitive high performance liquid chromatography method for the determination of chloramphenicol in swine muscle was described. The antibiotic was extracted from the sample with ethylacetate and purificated by solid phase chromatography. Detection and quantification was performed by reversed phase chromatography and UV detection at 280 nm. The calibration curve in the range of 5-30 ng was linear and reproducible. The overall recovery rates in spiked samples lied between 57% with a CV of 9,7%. The detection limit of chloramphenicol in swine muscle samples is about 10 ppb.
