    Fundada en el Instituto de Letras de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile el año 1971, la carrera de traducción cumple 50 años formando traductores. Por lo tanto, este artículo tiene por objetivo presentar la evolución histórica y los principales hitos que ha experimen-tado la carrera en estas cinco décadas. En primer lugar, se exponen los cambios curriculares que se han implementado en este período, los cuales responden a los avances en las inves-tigaciones teóricas y aplicadas de la traductología y la teletraducción, y a las necesidades del mercado de la traducción en nuestro país. En segundo lugar, se describen aquellas ini-ciativas que han permitido nutrir y optimizar la formación de traductores, entre otras, las actividades de perfeccionamiento e internacionalización, de investigación y publicaciones, de compromiso público y colaboración académica en el marco de convenios, y de extensión y vinculación con el medio. Finalmente, se esboza una reflexión en torno a la consolidación de fortalezas y se plantean algunos desafíos que permitan seguir optimizando la formación de traductores en nuestro país.

    Founded at the Instituto de Letras of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 1971, the Translation Program is celebrating its 50th anniversary of training translators. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to present the historical evolution and the main milestones that the career has undergone in these five decades. Firstly, we present the curricular changes that have been implemented during this period, which respond to the advances in theoretical and Abstract applied research in translatology and teletranslation, and to the needs of the translation mar-ket in our country. Secondly, we pay attention to those initiatives that have made it possible to nurture and optimize the training of translators, among others, the activities of further training and internationalization, of research and publications, of public commitment and ac-ademic collaboration within the framework of agreements, and of extension and community relations. Finally, we outline a reflection on the consolidation of strengths and present some challenges that will allow to continue optimizing the training of translators in our country.
