Las representaciones en la resolución de problemas aritméticos

    Las representaciones y su papel en el aprendizaje de las Matemáticas constituyen una importante línea de investigación (Resnick y Ford, 1981). Entre las razones de su importancia podríamos citar, fundamentalmente, dos: la primera tiene que ver con las propias Matemáticas, en las que las representaciones son algo inherente a ellas, y la otra es de tipo psicológico, ya que las representaciones mejoran notablemente la comprensión en los alumnos (De Vega, 1984). En este artículo haremos un resumen de las investigaciones más relevantes sobre el tema, centrándonos en los tipos de representaciones utilizadas en la resolución de los problemas aritméticos. Expondremos, a continuación, una propuesta para resolver problemas aritméticos en la Educación Primaria mediante el uso de dos sistemas de representación, que hemos desarrollado y llevado al aula. Terminaremos justificando la importancia del uso de diferentes sistemas de representación en el aprendizaje de las Matemáticas (NCTM, 2000).

    The representations and their role in the learning of Mathematics constitute an important research line (Resnick and Ford, 1981). Among the reasons of their importance we could mention, fundamentally, two: the first one has to do with the own Mathematics, in those that the representations are something inherent to them, and the other one is of psychological type, since the representations improve the understanding in the students (De Vega, 1984). In this paper we will make a summary of the most excellent research on the topic, centering us in the types of representations used in the arithmetic problems solving. We will expose, next, a proposal to solve arithmetic problems in Primary Education by means of two representation systems, that we have developed and implemented in the classroom. We will finish justifying the importance of the use of different representation systems in the learning of Mathematics (NCTM, 2000).
